The Bells
RAIR Philly, Philadelphia, PA
2021
This project was made while in residence at RAIR Philly, which partners with Revolution Recovery (a waste and recycling center) to allow residents the breadth of any and all materials slated for landfill or recycling purposes to make their artworks. The site-responsive project is installed in dual parts: a set of 5 bells is hung in the mechanic's barn at Revolution Recovery, and a set of 7 bells is situated in the meadow between the barn and the Delaware River. Both the barn and the meadow comprise the former Metalbank Superfund site, where toxic PCBs were found in the 1980s to be leaching not only into the soil, but into the Delaware River a couple hundred meters away.
All materials were salvaged, read more about it here

This project title borrows its name from a psychological grounding technique to reduce anxiety; wherein you name 5 things you can see, 4 things you can touch, 3 things you can hear, 2 things you can smell, and finally 1 thing you can taste.
